ArchiCOTE

An 8th award introduced this year

The jury for the ArchiCOTE competition, organised by COTE Magazine, the Syndicat des Architectes 13 and Société des Architectes, met in Marseille on 1 September to decide the winners of this second Provençal edition.

This second edition of the Provençal ArchiCOTE Awards allows us to revisit the competition’s organisational principles rather than its objective, which, as we know, is to promote contemporary architecture and encourage Provençal architectural creativity.

It all started with the call for projects launched by the Bouches-du-Rhône Architects’ Union to architects, students and artists practising in the department. Candidates present a contemporary architectural project recently completed in Southern Region departments. Entries fall into eight categories: Individual Housing-Villa, Refurbishment, Equipment, Less is More, Project with Planning Permission, Collective Housing, Art and Architecture, and Energy Renovation. This last award is new because “this is a major issue that will have a lasting impact on architecture,” according to Repaux.

The projects submitted to a multi-disciplinary jury – mainly architects – were checked for conformity before being analysed according to various criteria (architectural quality, coherence, integration into the environment, originality, and so forth).
