L’Oiseau d’Or

  • Four generations of treats

OISEAUXDOR.jpg

Opened in 1946 by Maurice Cornet, L'Oiseau d’Or in Cagnes-sur-Mer is now on its fourth generation of Cornets. It started life as a pâtisserie then morphed into a chocolaterie under Maurice's son Pierre and his wife; since then the family business has expanded from making chocolate of every kind to developing an extensive and varied range of confectionery – nougat, calissons, fruit jellies... – that no sweet-toothed gourmand resists. For the last 25 years Philippe Cornet has run the business, drawing on grandfather Maurice's craftsmanship and knowhow but updating them. "We still work on a machine bought 50 years ago; I'm proud to be able to show customers who have been coming here since childhood that we've retained the authentic spirit of our business. We use the same recipes as always, including for our popular chocolate-covered liqueur sweetie, which is a family secret." A success story all set to continue as Philippe's son Clément has now joined the business and will undoubtedly be taking charge a few years hence.
