Passwords: pictures with secret messages
He made a name for himself with his Flexo, the character whose attitudes embody our day to day emotions. A sculpture he offers in various forms, from acrylic trinket to a monumental version in steel, and now fashions as duets in versions like Be a Dad representing a father and his child. Eagerly awaited by his regulars at contemporary art fairs, ZED is now also amazing them with his new series of canvases in stimulating colours: Les Passwords. Available as single originals or in numbered series like the Flexo, these paintings barred with lines – similar to piano keys – display secret phrases when lifted. "I've had this idea for a long time. I was already drawing words with a ruler at school, which I passed on to others," explains the artist.
A collector's car enthusiast, during the confinement he repaired an old 70s van. It was also an opportunity to refocus on the essential, the need for freedom that characterises him, to leave more scope for creativity. "This year I'm going to tour cities like Paris and Nice, and places where people don't have the chance to host art fairs. I would like to entertain my clients in a more intimate atmosphere, create pop-up exhibitions for a weekend in unusual venues, to focus on meeting and exchange," concludes the artist.
