Culture from 2013 to 2023: 10th anniversary exhibition

Ten years ago Marseille-Provence was European Capital of Culture, an event well worth remembering. We wanted it to last forever, and we’re not alone in that.

In 2013, Marseille and the whole Bouches-du-Rhône département were alive with cultural events. There was much to be done, and we did it! A wholehearted commitment drove everyone involved in culture in the region, private and public sectors alike. A hive of activity: cranes, scaffolding, hammers and trowels prepared the venues for a myriad artworks and 900 events. Artists of all disciplines came from far and wide, to show the world that art and culture are truly of the essence. Great moments that bring people together on such a scale are of real social importance. Indeed one result of 2013 was the creation of the Marseille metropolitan authority in 2016. Marseille was Capital of Sport in 2017, and in 2018, under the aegis of MP Culture, organised the “Quel Amour!” programme with 200 cultural events of all kinds. A year later, MPG2019 celebrated food from farm to fork (and in art and on the stage). Its “unusual dinners” have since become annual events. Reviving memories of these past 10 years of culture, 80 pics by talented photographers have been gathered for an exhibition. It starts at Musée Regards de Provence at spring, but will then hit the region’s streets. The idea is to find the audience wherever they are, eating, shopping or strolling along. All photos will be sold for the benefit of the Ligue Contre le Cancer.
