La Commanderie Peyrassol

An open-air museum

The Commanderie de Peyrassol in the foothills of the Massif des Maures, one of the most famous vineyards in the Côtes de Provence wine appellation, has also been home to its owner Philippe Austruy’s exceptional contemporary art collection since 2001. This lover of wine and perfection has brought a second wind to this historic estate. You come across monumental works by Daniel Buren, Niki de Saint Phalle, Bertrand Lavier, Richard Long, Lee Ufan, Victor Vasarely, and Joana Vasconcelos set amidst the vines and right through the woods. The scenography of the spaces was redesigned in 2021 to give a museum-like presentation. These creations will awaken the pleasure of discovering contemporary art in you during a visit to the cellars or an excellent wine tasting

Lafourcade Architecture

The art of Provençal restoration

The Lafourcarde family, a key player in Provence, has been restoring or creating farmhouses, bastides and numerous vineyard properties in keeping with tradition since 1970. Lafourcade style, elegant, timeless, and respectful of tradition, has become a signature and symbol of the art of living in Provence. Château de Mille in Apt, Abbaye de Pierredon and Château Miraval in the Var are fine examples.

Château Saint-Pierre de Méjans

An inspired and inspiring château

Jean-Marc and Wendy Gobbi have succeeded in contrasting Romanesque art with the modern art they are so fond of in their 12th-century wine estate – comprising more than 27 acres of vines, olive trees, and lavender – and château. An outdoor art trail features numerous works by local artists. Meanwhile, an artist-in-residence programme is for them to make the most of the inspiring and peaceful Provençal setting.

Art moderne dans les jardins du Château Vignelaure.

Château Vignelaure

Artists’ birthplace

The estate, with vines cultivated for over 2,000 years, is also home to a fascinating collection of modern art begun by Georges Brunet in the 1980s, which you can view in the gardens and art gallery: César, Dresser, Cartier-Bresson, Arman, Lartigue, Miró… Mr and Mrs Sundstrom, the art and design lovers and collectors who are the current owners, have continued this tradition since 2007 and turned the castle’s outbuildings into an artists’ refuge.
