The 300-plus co-working spaces that now exist in France are a perfect illustration of how the sharing economy is taking shape in our cities. Marseille is no exception, with cutting-edge co-working projects springing up all over.

Coworking reached France about ten years ago, appealing first of all to freelancers and homeworkers. Many of these people are also into mutual aid, cooperation and sharing in other areas of life. Marseille now has about a dozen coworking spaces, all in the town centre
and equipped with everything needed for working together in good-humoured harmony: open-space work stations, meeting rooms and customer reception area, not to mention a bar for relaxing and chatting. At Le Loft people can wind down with video games or table football.

Each its own style
These places are firmly rooted in the IT age and the mindset is American (wearing sneakers doesn’t mean you’re unproductive!). All these places make an effort with the decor, often chosen to attract coworkers with the same tastes as the “boss”, be it cool, chic, urban, artsy, cosy, vintage, eco-friendly, hipster or whatever. Each co-working space seems to find its own style. But before you launch yours, be warned that successful co-working requires a genuinely collaborative mindset.
