A lunch on the grass in Cagnes-sur-mer

It's a beautiful reference to Manet's work, later taken up by Jean Renoir in the cinema: "Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe" comes to life in the gardens of the Domaine des Collettes for a Belle Époque-style picnic that's not lacking in retro charm.
The idea: swap jeans and sneakers for a period costume (1900s), swap the cooler for a wicker basket, and unfold a checkered tablecloth instead of your usual plaid.
At 10:30 a.m., the activities begin: wooden games from the toy library, lace demonstrations with free workshops, an exhibition of vintage vehicles, and musical interludes. Renoir high school students exhibit their plastic creations in the gardens. The real picnic begins at 12:30 p.m., when families sit down in costume on the grass.
The idea is a change from traditional tours and allows you to relive the atmosphere of bourgeois Sundays of yesteryear. For those less motivated by the dress code, the event remains open to all—even if playing along adds to the fun. A free shuttle service from the municipal police station is available for those who are afraid of getting their shoes dirty.
