The project is situated not far from the Promenade du Paillon, in a complex built at the beginning of the twentieth century consisting originally of car garages. The part of the building on which this work focused comprises a ground floor used as a car park and, on the floor above, a vast loft, workshop, various service spaces, and a small single-oriented studio on the courtyard side. The project aimed to create a new living space. A pleasant, airy, bright space to live independent of the loft by grouping the ancillary premises. A patio was created, graced with a planter planted with a beautiful wisteria that forms a vegetated pergola providing privacy from the neighbouring buildings. The spaces structured around the patio include a vast living space, open kitchen, integrated storage, large bedroom, and guest space.
The jury’s opinion: This project is a reminder of what is at stake in architectural style. It solves a complex situation and inserts a genuine housing function. Open to the sky, unifying a space that previously did not exist, with a clear requirement in terms of housing quality.
