It all began a few years ago at the Bliss Bar in Nice’s old town, where Maëva lives her best life, working hard and playing hard. Nicknamed Maymay, she ended up mixing music there from time to time. She then met Magali, another regular, who also turned her talents to the turntables in her spare time. They sing in unison with the same groove: their chemistry is shattering. Since 2010, these kindred spirits have made countless musical memories. After the pandemic, their shared dedication to music took them into a whole new dimension. Brimming with vibrant energy, “it’s time to show people what we can do”, they say to each other one evening in the courtyard of the Hôtel Amour. They intend to take on the huge challenge of bringing back the city’s nightlife! Their career actually began in this very hotel in Nice.
The bubbly pair quickly christened themselves MagMay, a combination of their first names and they shaped their brand as a very pop-inspired, brightly coloured identity with a unique clothing style. Their positive energy is an outpouring of eclectic influences: funk, new disco, deep house and afro. Magmay never prepare their sets, so each evening is a unique experience. They work in symbiosis with their audience, guided by feeling and synergy. For a year now, MagMay has taken a 360-degree turn and their career as modern icons is just beginning. They’ll be at the Crossover Summer in Saint-Paul-de-Vence on1 July, the Plages Electroniques in Cannes on 4 August and the Crossover Summer in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on 25 August, opening for disco idol Cerrone! What’s next? They want to create an EP with songs that reflect their style, and simply keep on setting dancefloors ablaze.
