Writing is a journey

We were all hoping the gates of freedom would be opened wide, but we might be in for more restrictions. Samuel Andréo wrote his book Quelques fragments du chaos, Impressions Saint-Tropez (Fragments of chaos, Saint-Tropez impressions) during the first lockdown, and its tone is hopeful. Andréo is head concierge at the Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez, and in this book, he has put down his personal thoughts and feelings. Stuck at home in his house among the vineyards of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, he sums up the situation with a creativity that will galvanize the reader. He writes about the solitary walks that gave him the chance to rediscover nature in a silence that awakened his awareness.
The book’s second part is all about Saint-Tropez. The author describes the remarkable history of the little harbour town, its legendary places, its hidden corners and the artists it attracted over the years – Maupassant, Paul Signac, Colette, Dufy, Françoise Sagan, Brigitte Bardot. He ends his tour with the Hôtel de Paris, the bay’s first luxury hotel, built in 1931. The much-vaunted hotel was a favourite with artists from the beginning; its vast entrance hall hosts superb art exhibitions every year.
