Vasarely Foundation Aix-en-Provence
Kinetic art for all audiences...
Within the walls of the architectural center overlooking the A7 like a UFO of black and white metal, the visionary art of Hungarian visual artist Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) resonates today with an unprecedented body of work far beyond borders. "From Cézanne to Vasarely, we will be worthy," he promised from the first stone laid in 1973. The rest is history. Like the commitment of his son Pierre, who tirelessly strives for his recognition. To support this private foundation, simply become a member and find out about the regular sales of selected works. After "The Art of the Multiple, Victor Vasarely and Screen Printing" (until April 1), the partnership renewed for the 5th year with the Centre Pompidou reveals the art deco aesthetic of "Kazys Varnelis, a Lithuanian in Aix", featured in his country (from June 16 to October 15).

Vincent van Gogh Foundation, Arles
The South Workshop, a testing ground
The project, which began between 2020 and 2023, was an artist residency in a house in Arles. Invited by Maja Hoffmann, president of the foundation and founder of Luma, and American painter Laura Owens, who knows the city like the back of her hand, the 24 participants immersed in this artistic adventure are now bringing to life the Dutch master's wish: a workshop in the South, fostering the creation and development of a community of talent.
To the artist from across the Atlantic, ceramics, mosaics, screen-printed curtains, partitions adorned with paintings and drawings; to the collaborators, friends and students who succeeded one another until last July, multiple contributions which, little by little, transformed the place into a collective work. The foundation celebrates here this adventurous, sensual, joyful lighting where sculpture, video and painting resonate… Visit of the private house on rue du Cloître by reservation.

Director of Frac Corsica
Originally from Indre et Loire, with a doctorate in art history, this former resident of the Villa Medici, appointed head of the Frac Corsica since 2021 (the island's first institution to be part of a national and European network, with some 500 works), is the general curator of the "Art & Sport" event. Art at the heart of sport, labeled Cultural Olympiad in the 2024 Olympic calendar: 14 exhibitions produced by the RMN-Grand Palais in 14 regions, between May and November. "Art and sport, vectors of emotion in the diversity of practices and their multiple forms of expression, share the same driving force, that of passion. The plural exhibition will offer unique encounters. Football stadium, swimming pool, bowling alley, skate park... will become a new playground, mixing videos, photographs, installations, in a teeming dimension. An ode to the heterogeneous and the disparate."

Some real “vintages” of art!
Masterfully managed by Christian Le Dorze, the family vineyard and its 10 hectares of organic AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence grapes are twinned with an art center that, since its opening in 2021, has already attracted leading figures. This renown has not gone unnoticed by the Frac Sud – Cité de l'art contemporain, which, as part of its "Off-Site" program, is partnering with the venue, showcasing works from its collection for the exhibition "…Less is more…". The Marseille-based institution provides support, education, and outreach; the Frac Sud focuses on highlighting the artworks, disseminating them within its region, and educating audiences. This impactful project features regional, national, and international artists expressing their unique perspectives across various media.

The new home port of photographer François-Louis Athénas
Revealed to collectors for his images of the Indian Ocean, this Parisian, who converted to advertising and publishing under the island sun before settling in Marseille, has invested in the former Ursuline convent with an aesthete's intuition... The gallery houses wonders on this charming square at the foot of the Panier. Alongside his inspiring work in film (his meeting with Edouard Boubat will be his big trigger), regularly renewed on the walls and which already promises a fresh look at Marseille, he opens this place to other artists and disciplines, such as ceramics or high-quality textiles. To "reveal and share the beauty of artistic gestures, whatever they may be, wherever they come from!" The summer of 2024 will be dedicated to the theme of water.
