Hermeray (Yvelines)
Among all the projects competing for this 2025 edition, the jury wished to highlight the quality of this contemporary and vernacular-inspired intervention by Nicola Spinetto Architectes. This involved the rehabilitation and extension of a very dilapidated house, to accommodate a bathroom and two bedrooms. The firm chose to renovate the woodwork and white plaster walls of the original building. The contemporary aspect of this project was reflected in a simple volume, a glass facade opening onto the pond, wooden frames and an exposed concrete terrace. The extension was designed in line with the proportions of the existing house, its length, its width and the slope of the roof. This extension now houses living spaces such as the kitchen, the dining room and the living room, in a continuity ensured by a thatched roof. The construction used CLT, or solid wood panels; an economical and aesthetic process that allowed for clean and modern finishes without the use of plaster or paint. The panels, prefabricated in the factory with technical reservations, are used for rapid assembly. The covered enclosure was erected in three days, excluding the thatched roof.
The jury's opinion
"There is a subtle mimicry between the original construction and this proposal, which recalls the pre-existing volume and its proportions. It is a work on time, which opens the eyes to the local geography and inscribes materials like thatch in a possible universality."
