A former Ricard factory, then a deserted nursery school: Artagon Marseille took a few detours before finding a home that suited its needs. This has now been accomplished in just a few days, in the former Hangar Belle de Mai, 2,000 m² brought back from obscurity to become a hub for work, creation, and encounters, serving Marseille's emerging art scene. Workshops, production spaces, and communal living areas: the site is designed as a complete ecosystem , capable of hosting around thirty artists, collectives, and project leaders simultaneously, who will receive support for two years as they take their first professional steps.
At the end of August, an initial open house allowed the public to discover these walls and the new 2026-2027 cohort who now reside within them. But the space itself is alive year-round: workshops in operation, residents at work, projects in development far removed from exhibition openings and parties. Behind these walls is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 by Anna Labouze and Keimis Henni, which offers a wide range of programs throughout the year (creation and management of resource centers, training, grants, events) for emerging artists and cultural professionals. Together with its sister organization in Pantin, on the outskirts of Paris, Artagon boasts over 7,000 square meters of workspaces, training facilities, and production spaces, where around one hundred residents live and work simultaneously: the first multidisciplinary and multi-regional cultural incubator in France, supported by a team of about fifteen people. An ambition that expanded even further in 2025 with the launch of the Art Emergence biennial, dedicated to the young artistic scene, the next edition of which will be held in 2027 at the Centquatre in Paris.
