The Dora Maar Film Festival opens its first edition in Ménerbes

From August 29 to 31, 2025, the village of Ménerbes will host the inaugural Dora Maar Film Festival, a new event dedicated to artistic documentaries. Created by Lucy Darwin, producer (Lost in La Mancha, Match Point), and Natasha Bhatia, entrepreneur and patron, this festival pays tribute to the surrealist photographer and artist Dora Maar, who lived in this Luberon village. Organized in partnership with the Dora Maar Cultural Center, the festival celebrates photography through six documentaries, including WAR PAINT: WOMEN AT WAR by Margy Kinmonth, presented in its French premiere. Also on the program: Capturing Lee Miller, Sabine Weiss, a century of photography, Dora Maar, between shadow and light, I Am Martin Parr, and Ernest Cole: Lost & Found, an award-winning film at Cannes in 2024. The outdoor screenings will be held in the idyllic setting of the Domaine du Fortin, while meetings with directors, editors, and historians will take place at the Hôtel de Tingry. Each film will be accompanied by discussions with the creative teams, in an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Supported by local patrons, including Maison Victoire Immobilier and the Ménerbes Town Hall, this festival aims to become an annual event, exploring a new artistic discipline each year. A living tribute to the free spirit of Dora Maar, in a place steeped in history and beauty.
