Maison Mentone: a new gourmet haven in the heart of the Var

In Lorgues, in the heart of the Dracénie region, the Caille family has just opened Maison Mentone, continuing the adventure begun in 2003 with Château Mentone. Designed as an authentic and welcoming place to live, this new address combines a wine cellar, a bistro, and soon a charming hotel, in an atmosphere where Provençal tradition meets contemporary art of living. The beating heart of Maison Mentone is its bistro, entrusted to the expert hands of Michelin-starred chef Sébastien Sanjou, accompanied by executive chef Mohamed Farhat. Together, they create accessible, generous, and seasonal cuisine that elegantly celebrates the Var region's terroir. Each day, five starters, five main courses, and five desserts are listed on the menu, updated according to market produce and the inspiration of the moment. Rabbit terrine with rosemary, sautéed squid with parsley, slices of Mediterranean bluefin tuna, and crème renversée are just some of the simple, refined offerings to enjoy on-site in a relaxed atmosphere. The lunch menu revisits local classics, from aioli to pistou soup, from braised rabbit with olives to beef cheek stew. Dishes are designed to be shared, accompanied by daily side dishes, mesclun salad with fresh herbs, and homemade sauces that change daily. A lively place at all hours, the bistro is also a friendly meeting point: enjoy a coffee in the morning, a glass of wine or artisanal pastis in the late morning, a homemade juice in the shade in the afternoon, or a cocktail at sunset. The atmosphere, with its contemporary furniture and antique tableware, evokes a tastefully revisited village bistro, and the terrace overlooking the Lorgues collegiate church adds an extra touch of charm. The cellar, the central element of the place, offers a refined selection of around 200 wines and spirits, combining the Caille family's favorites, responsible production values, and regional diversity. Organic wines, artisanal pastis, and fine grocery products developed in collaboration with Chef Sanjou make this cellar a space for discovery and transmission, beyond simple commerce. With Maison Mentone, the Caille family offers a new gateway to authentic Provence, both demanding and accessible, friendly and refined. A place for sharing and pleasure, between raised glasses, inspired plates, and moments suspended under the Var sky.
