Matthias Hand (born in 1964 in Hanover) has lived in Munich since 1984. He has had a successful career as a business economist in the international automotive industry. His career also led him to spend several years living in Stockholm and London. It was in the 1990s that Matthias discovered his passion for photography. Since then, he has been an active member of the BMW Group Photo Club, with numerous projects and exhibitions to his credit. His most notable achievements include:
1997: Scottish Highlands
1998: BMW Products
2001: 66 Degrees North – A photographic journey through the landscapes of Lapland, with BMW and Land Rover.
Since 2020, Matthias has divided his time between Munich and Maubec, in the Luberon region, where he devotes himself fully to photography. He specializes in portraits taken in natural light. For him, human beings are the most fascinating subjects: an infinite diversity of faces, expressions, and emotions, each telling a story. Armed with his Nikon mirrorless camera, he captures artistic portraits, using only natural light—regardless of the weather—without resorting to artificial lighting or digital retouching. This weekend, Matthias will present his first solo exhibition, entitled "Faces of the World", at the Galerie Chez Mechtild in Goult, Luberon. The exhibition brings together striking photographs taken in Bangladesh, Rajasthan, Oman and Papua New Guinea.
