  • Investment: plenty going on!

The French public investment bank Bpifrance, which recently consolidated its partnerships with the country’s 18 Regional Councils, is a paramount example of the many public bodies investing in our region.

Bpifrance has invested a total of €1.6 billion in 6208 companies in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, opening the way to €3.5 billion in public and private investment for the region. What the bank does is to join forces with a company’s bank to co-finance the company’s investment, finding ways to strengthen its cash flow and easing its access to credit by providing surety and covering part of the bank risk. Bpifrance is actively supporting the growth sectors and has financed 513 innovative projects in the region. It also helps businesses look for funding elsewhere and offers backup measures to sustain such funding. In 2018 the bank will invest nearly €17 million in structurally important projects and €13 million in innovative projects. Meanwhile, the Métropole Marseille-Aix authority has an ambitious three-strand economic growth strategy (people and environment; infrastructure and public works; tomorrow’s world), illustrated by six innovative projects: TEAM Henri Fabre, The Camp, Iter, Euroméditerranée, Marseille Immunopole and PIICTO.
