Nice’s new collaborative biennial launches as a big three-dimensional urban celebration: a festival of artworks in the public space, a young artist’s prize, and an art and technology forum.

“Art is not a domain of particular things, it is a particular manner of doing things,” writes philosopher Patrice Maniglier in the Movimenta manifesto. From the images screened in cinemas or broadcast on television to the ones that now crowd our mobiles, tablets and computers, this new festival explores without restriction all formats. Aimed at professionals and public, creators and the curious, it spotlights artistic, cultural and technological innovation. From 8 to 11 November, the Movimenta image trail from Place Masséna to the façades of the TNN and MAMAC, curated by Marc Barani and Mathilde Roman, opens an intimate dialogue between locations and works. Explore the experience all along the Promenade du Paillon by means of artists’ films, arthouse videos, archive films and digital works.

Talks, demonstrations, workshops
From 4 to 18 November in the main hall of the 109 there’s the Movimenta Young Artist’s Prize exhibition of artworks using moving images and challenging their uses. Movimenta also organises professional networking events between experts, artists, technicians and start-ups in the creative industries, at the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Then there are solo and themed exhibitions at Villa Arson, the national Marc Chagall Museum, La Station, Le Hublot, La Maison Abandonnée and many other venues taking part in the festival. And to cap it all, the town’s galleries working with video artists present Caméra, Caméra from 23 to 26 November, a show of pieces hard to present in the usual art fairs, in an intimate setting.
