Flavio Briatore

  • Star of the jet-set club scene

Since opening his first club in 2001, Flavio Briatore has become a headline player in international nightlife.

His name has echoed through the fashion industry with Benetton and through Formula One racing thanks to seven world championship victories, but these days Flavio Briatore is doing nightlife – not the mainstream variety, you understand, but the swankiest around! The genesis was back in 1998 on Sardinia's Costa Smeralda, when Briatore opened the ultra-select Billionaire in order to entertain his friends. His concept was such a success it was exported to other countries: Turkey, Kenya and... Monaco. "That was an old dream of mine, because Monaco is one of the loveliest places on earth, and I won five Grand Prix here. Monte-Carlo has always brought me luck!" Might giraffes be lucky for him too? Apparently so, since opening the Twiga ("giraffe" in Swahili) made him a leading light on the Monegasque club scene, and it was named after the now-historic Twiga Beach Club Versilia that opened in 2001. Briatore's concept involves a lounge, shisha bar, restaurant and club in two iterations, indoors and outside on a waterfront deck, where his (classy) clientele can enjoy Italian-style aperitifs, pizzas, sushi and caviar. His latest venture is the Dubai Billionaire Mansion, another long-held dream: "Opening a place there has always been on the cards. Dubai is like New York, one of the world's most magnet cities, modern and packed with positive energy. It's a lot about business but the nightlife is exciting too and it's a very safe place for families to holiday." So what is the Dubai Billionaire Mansion about? "It's at the Taj hotel in Business Bay and it has a restaurant serving two contemporary menus, Italian and Japanese, a bar, a club, a shisha bar on the terrace, entertainment etc." And most importantly, the spirit that has made Flavio Briatore a star of jet-set nightlife!
