Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters

  • Ace tennis at the 110th edition!

From 9 to 17 April the world’s highest-flying tennis players are meeting in the Principality to serve up spellbinding sets against the backdrop of the sea.

The Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, the first tournament of the European clay season, is celebrating its 110th edition this year. The event, which is sponsored by Rolex the watchmaker, attracted around 135,000 spectators and was broadcast in over 80 countries last year. “In 2015, we were blessed with yet another exceptional line-up that included most of the top ten players in the world,” enthuses tournament director Željko Franulovic. Following on from the Grand Slam, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters is one of the nine competitions that make up the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series, in which the highest-ranking tennis players compete. Last year Novak Djokovic won his second victory in Monaco in three years. Since then the world number one has added the following titles to his impressive record: Wimbledon, the US Open, the London Masters and the Australian Open. The Serbian champion was among the first to sign up for the eagerly awaited 2016 season, along with Rafael Nadal, eight times winner of the tournament, and Stan Wawrinka, world number four. The 110th edition looks set to be particularly festive, with events like the ‘Grande Nuit du Tennis’, the traditional players’ night, taking place on 15 April. Thanks to the support of high-profile partners, the tournament is constantly growing and improving, attracting an ever increasing number of spectators.
