Design Parade 10

  • Spotlighting the world's young designers

The 10th festival proves this has grown into one of the design scene's unmissable events.

The Design Parade held in Hyères's Villa Noailles, a superb example of modernist architecture by Mallet-Stevens, continues its drive to promote contemporary creativity through exhibitions, exchanges, a vintage design market, a temporary bookshop, and of course an international competition spotlighting young designers. This year's jury, headed by Pierre Charpin who designed the celebrated Eau de Paris carafe, received 270 entries from some 30 countries, out of which 10 were shortlisted. This work is currently on show until 27 September, so you can discover: Ying Chang's Grid System evolving desk; Max Frommeld and Arno Mathies's Folding Sled in sustainable materials and combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology; Samy Rio who has used bamboo stems to make speakers and a hair-dryer; Marlène Huissoud's From Insects vases crafted out of propolis, a natural material produced by bees; Anne-Charlotte Piot and Maureen Barbette's vividly colourful world with its profusion of diverse objects including Froufrou shelving curtained with multi-coloured fringing.
