Be OVNI this autumn!

The Objectif Vidéo Nice festival is about promoting video art and moving images, a spirited event that takes over city venues and hotels for its fifth edition.

Nice’s mustn’t-miss autumn cultural event is Objectif Vidéo Nice, otherwise known as OVNI – a play on words as OVNI is French for UFO –, a mega-dynamic festival focused on cross-fertilisation between the arts, whose patron is none other than Agnès b. Given that this year is the centenary of the Victorine film studios in Nice, OVNI 2019 naturally chose to spotlight cinema. The festival invites us into four Nice hotels to discover artworks from French and foreign contemporary-art reserves, including but not only museums. The Hôtel West End and Villa Rivoli explore the topic of tracking shots, Hôtel La Malmaison hosts an original project from Seoul’s Total Museum, and at the Hôtel Splendid a Jérémy Griffaud installation in the fitness suite asks us to consider the impact machines have on our performance. And that’s only a part of the programme! OVNI also brings us the Camera Camera show at the Hôtel Windsor, where the contemporary art galleries this year offer a “light“ and “shade“ trail with video as the unifying thread. And not forgetting a city trail taking in a whole host of public and private venues in Nice but also Antibes and Mouans-Sartoux. So head to the 109, the MAMAC and many other places to celebrate video art’s multiple identities with us.
